What is Plexr?
Plexr is a form of soft surgery treatment that is non-invasive, meaning there is no blood, no scalpel is used and there is no need for a full anaesthetic.
Plexr is often used to perform of non-surgical blepharoplasty, as a treatment for hooded eyelids, under-eye bags and lines.
But it can also be used for a variety of other conditions too, including treating acne scarring and stretch marks and the removal of moles and other skin lesions.
This treatment is always performed and followed up by Dr Mayoni. Read on to find out more.
What conditions can Plexr treat?
We use Plexr at The Clinic to treat a range of skin complaints:
- Non-surgical eyelid correction (blepharoplasty)
- Crows feet (lines around the eyes)
- Perioral/ smoker’s lines around the mouth
- Skin lesions such as moles, skin tags, warts, verrucae etc.
- Seborrheic keratosis (non-cancerous skin growths)
- Acne and acne scarring
- Loose stomach skin
- Loose skin on the face (facelift)
- Loose skin on the neck (necklift)
- Other treatments (e.g. navel lifting)
These before and after photos show the results when Plexr has been used for navel lifting, to treat acne, the removal of papulosa nigra (small brown spots around the eyes and cheekbones) and for blepharoplasty (eyelids, eye bags and lines):
How does it work?
This clever bit of kit uses plasma energy. This essentially means it ionises gases in the air to create a tiny electrical arc (if you look up close it’s like a tiny lightning bolt!) to heat the tissue that is being treated.
The really clever bit is that the heat does not spread to the surrounding areas. It just works on the dermal and epidermal areas without affecting the deeper layer, known as the basal lamina.
The Plexr device heats tiny dots of skin at 500 microns (half a millimetre) apart to stimulate instant contraction and tightening of the skin fibres.
This treatment does not cause bleeding, and gives great results without the drawbacks of traditional surgery, such as scarring and the need for full anaesthesia.
How is the treatment performed?
Plexr is performed using a small, hand-held wireless device. Treatment usually lasts around 30 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated.
Some conditions only need one treatment. We recommend a maximum of three separate treatments, spaced six to eight weeks apart, for blepharoplasty. This is dependent on your individual needs and will be discussed in full at your consultation.
Although treatment is not completely painless, we apply a numbing gel on the skin 30 minutes prior to treatment so that any discomfort is minimised.

Are there any side-effects?
Straight after the treatment, your skin will be red and a little swollen. Patients may experience some swelling and discomfort in the treated area for up to three days following the procedure.
A small scab will form almost immediately at the site of each dot of treatment. This is a carbon crust, and it is important that these are not touched for five to seven days following treatment, while the skin heals.
We recommend the use of a special camouflaging post-procedure foundation. This has the added benefit of protecting the treated skin from sunlight, which is also essential. Dr. Mayoni will talk you through all of the details at your initial consultation.
It is important to adhere to the aftercare advice as recommended, as this will help to minimise the likelihood of side effects such as infection, scarring and temporary changes in skin pigmentation.
How long will the effects last?
The treatment instantly shortens the fibres in the skin, and this process continues to take effect for the first two to four weeks following treatment.
Results typically last for the same amount of time as you would expect for traditional surgery. Your skin will continue to age post-treatment as it would otherwise have done.
