Why Dr. Mayoni recommends Dermapen micro-needling

We’re pleased to welcome a new rejuvenation treatment to The Clinic: Dermapen. Dermapen is a micro-needling device and is replacing our E-Dermastamp (E-DS) treatment.

You may already be familiar with Dermaroller, and Dermapen works on similar principles – although with a couple of key differences, which we’ll come to in a moment! If you’re new to micro-needling, here’s a quick overview of how it works:

  • Tiny needles penetrate to the ideal depth within the dermis, giving the skin an intentional injury
  • This stimulates its natural healing and regeneration process, as the skin responds by increasing the production of collagen and elastin – the elements that give it bounce and vitality!
  • Both collagenand elastin naturally decline in the skin as we age. Microneedling treatments aim to reverse some of this process by tightening, lifting and rejuventating the skin.

The Dermapen device head has 12 surgical grade micro needles, and it’s perfect for addressing fine lines such as those caused naturally by ageing and sun-damage, as well as wrinkles, dilated pores, surgical scars and scars from injury or acne. Stretch marks and uneven or excess pigmentation in the skin also respond well to Dermapen, as do other skin conditions including vitiligo and rosacea. So you can see why we think it’s the perfect addition to our range here at The Clinic!

As these compelling before and after pictures show, Dermapen achieves significant results:

We recommend Dermapen over Dermaroller because whereas Dermaroller rolls over the skin the Dermapen device delivers vertical channels into the skin, and this minimises damage and discomfort. It also means that Dermapen has a shorter down-time than Dermaroller and other comparable treatments such as laser resurfacing and chemical peels. Another big plus for our clients! The speed and depth can also be customised to the individual, meaning you get a bespoke treatment tailored to your needs.

Another benefit is that Dermapen is suitable for all skin types and Fitzpatrick types.

Results are typically seen after just one treatment, but more than one treatment may be required to get the best results. This depends on the individual and the condition being treated, and Dr. Mayoni will discuss this in full at your initial consultation. The effects last too: the regenerating process will continue for up to 24 months post-treatment.

As you would expect there is a little downtime – redness of the skin (erythema) may last up to two days post-treatment. There are also some things you should avoid for two days following treatment to allow the skin to heal, including UV exposure (sun exposure), intensive exercise, hot showers, other clinical treatments, spray or self-tanning, swimming in chlorinated pools or the ocean and tattooing of any kind.

If you’d like to find out more and see how Dermapen could benefit your skin, don’t hesitate to contact us.

And one last thing: don’t forget that treatments such as Dermapen can ONLY be performed by a qualified practitioner like Dr. Mayoni. Please check the credentials of your therapist before going ahead with any treatment of this kind.
